As a young single black woman, there are times that I find myself fantasying about marriage and what it will be like but this movie provided a pragmatic example of the aspects of marriage that don’t make an appearance in my fantasies, which is a blessing because it was a reminder of how difficult and exhausting sustaining a marriage can be. It also forced me to reevaluate the way I handle matters concerning the men in my life right now and moving forward. I used to waste a lot of my time investing in men that don’t have the slightest clue about being selfless or putting their pride to the side for the ones they love. And anyone who has ever found themselves in a situation like that knows how frustrating that can be because after a while you find yourself having to tell a man how to treat you. There is a serious problem with that. When I think back on the efforts I’ve made over the years, I shake my head and laugh. I can understand providing guidance but when you find yourself pushing and shoving, with no positive, lasting results, it’s disconcerting. It also reminded me how important it is to choose wisely when deciding on who will be my lifelong partner. It is not a game. And I say this only because lately I've noticed that people toy with the seriousness of it, diminishing the value of what a marriage is supposed to be.
I’ve wasted a lot of time being resentful and bitter and yearning for something that I’m not even prepared for. Instead of being clouded by the man I don’t have, I plan to work on myself first and look forward to what God has in store for me. :)
This movie gets two thumbs up from me and I highly recommend everyone taking the time out to see it.
Congratulations to Tyler Perry for having the number one movie in the box office, grossing 21.5 million this weekend stomping out Michael Clayton starring George Clooney and Elizabeth: The Golden Age starring Cate Blanchett!
